Know and Grow Your Own Baby Food presented by Juliann B. Gardner
Feb 16th from 2 pm to 3:30 pm
This incredibly cold winter has been a winter to remember. Between braving the cold and scraping the snow and ice off of my All-Season beds to access the progress of my produce, I have been cooking up a storm to warm my kitchen and prepare for my presentation at the Museum Center during the Appalachian Culture Fest this weekend.
Presented by Bluegrass for Babies, who's mission is to encourage healthy lifestyle choices through products and practices for the family, the Healthy Home Workshop will give families access to healthy choices for the whole family. I am excited to be sharing methods of growing, cultivating and processing healthy foods for babies and the family. To show how easy it is to grow and make your own high quality baby food, without needing to go the grocery, I will be demonstrating with one of our small, approachable Greenspot Growing Systems™. I will introduce 6 types of foods and how to produce them, as well as common methods for preservation and use there after.
One Small Garden has been committed to teaching the growth cycle of our foods as well as providing accessibility to nearly any home lifestyle. By offering this class room demonstration and lecture, we hope to encourage young families to grow a small bit of their own food at home with their children and to share the simplicity and ease of converting fresh foods to freezer stored baby foods. The cooking and storage of the seasons bounty for future meals (even in the dead of winter) is simple and applies to all of us whether we have families or are living alone. Saving the seasonal crops for the freezer is one of the best ways to keep your own fresh, high quality foods throughout the dormant time of the year.
